Have the Courage to Face the Truth
Creating change in our adult lives is not as easy as it was when we are children. As kids we were versatile and flexible. We had not formed opinions on everything under the sun. We were sponges, absorbing every bit of information and storing it.
One of the more unfortunate aspects of our adult lives is that we have formed habits that are more difficult to change than in our younger lives. Think back to the time you were four or five. Remember playing in the yard? One day you could have been playing with dolls, the next day with your new puppy. Yet, on another day you could be playing hopscotch or jump rope. Perhaps, you played none of the above. I ask you not to fight the concept. Understand that you life was not nearly so rigid as a youngster. You were willing to make changes and learn new games.
However, as adults we have begun to filter activities, sometimes based on preconceived notions, sometimes based on observations, sometimes based on experiences, but most often based on ego. This is not the venue to discuss “ego” per se. Therefore, I will only say that the ego is the part of you (and me) that believes we must keep up with someone named Jones, the generic family name of that level of aspiration that we consider success.
Again, to recreate your reality as you would have it to be, you must have the courage to face the truth. You must face your present circumstance as it is, not as you wish it were or had hoped it would be.
Honesty on my part is to tell you that if you are not willing to or if you do not have the courage to face the truth, you are wasting your time reading on.
The hardest part of recreating our world, our individual realities, is to take a good, long, honest look at it. To this end and to a new beginning you must have the courage to face the truth, your truth. Or, as a friend once told me, “Don’t start believing the lies you tell others.”
