Happy New Year… It’s Up to You!

Happy New Year to everyone.  That is my wish for all our readers.  However, the truth is that your happiness in the upcoming year is solely up to you.

As we begin a new year, it is important that we get off to a fast start on the right foot.  If there is one resolution that I would wish for everyone, it is that each of us have the courage to face the truth.

Facing the truth about ourselves, our happiness and our desires is crucial in the process of re-creating our realities.  There is no better day to begin the process than New Year’s Day.  For whatever reason New Year’s Day has become the starting point of all change.  Most of us wake up feeling as if the past is in the past and find ourselves in the starting blocks, ready to run the marathon race of the year.

If you are serious about recreating your reality, there is no time like the present to get off to a fast start.  Unfortunately, some of us will face a truth that tells us that we are too lazy to strive for changes in our daily activities.  Some of us will face a truth that tells us that we don’t know how to make the changes we desire.  Some of us will face a truth that we don’t have the will to make changes in our daily lives.  And, others of us will face a truth that we just love misery and find a certain comfort in wallowing in it.

However, others of us are ready!  For those of us who are ready there has been no better time in our lives to make the changes we desire and live the life we want to live.

Let’s face a few facts before we move on.  Let’s just get put the cards on the table and see how our hands can play out.  Of course, how you see your hand and how you play your cards is up to you.

The facts that are on many of our minds:

  • Fact 1:  Our country is in a severe economic recession.  Jobs are being lost.  Fortunes have been lost.  The jobless rate is reaching levels we have not seen in the past quarter century and the truth is that it is going to get worse before it gets better.
  • Fact 2:  Our families are in debt.
  • Fact 3:  Many of us are overweight and physically unfit.
  • Fact 4:  Many of us are stressed… totally stressed… and can’t see beyond today.

Okay, so that’s a list of a few of our concerns.  Can you identify with any of them?  Chances are if you are breathing, you are identifying.  You are wallowing in worry, too.

Enough of our observations!  We can change each of the concerns into a positive… if we so choose!  The truth is that our perception of the present conditions surrounding our lives is a matter of attitude and action.  We can control both if we so choose.  We can take control of our lives and of the present situation.  Remember, with every adversity there is a seed of equivalent or greater benefit.  But, we have to look for the benefit and take action to pursue the positives.

I’m going to take a shot at suggesting a few positives that can be found if we move forward with a positive mental attitude and deliberate action.

First, the economic crisis that has bagged all of us in one way or another may be the greatest opportunity of this century.

Second, like it or not, all of us are being forced to become responsible consumers.  We love spending and overspending.  For years we have lived beyond our means and our incomes.  Now, we are being forced to take a look at our finances and make adjustments.  There is a beauty hidden within this.  We are learning to live on what we have and if we are smart, and I think we are, we are going to learn to save, save, save, and become responsible consumers.

Third, the health problem of our nation is not only an embarrassment, but it is something each of us can improve for ourselves.  We have the opportunity, starting today to become healthier than we have ever been.

Four, the stress factor in our lives is something of our own creation.  If we created it, we can modify it and eliminate it.

As mentioned in a previous post, there are only two reasons we don’t make the changes we desire in our lives.

  1. We don’t want to.
  2. We don’t know how.

This year I hope to share a ideas on “how to.”  Maybe, just maybe, if you join us this year you will find yourself in better shape next year than you do today.  I’m not only speaking of physical shape.  We can do anything we want to do with the will to do it and the know how.  Hopefully, together we can develop the “know how” and for those of us who are not yet motivated to take action, we can put a burr under your saddle.

This year is the best year in my life for making change.  It can be your best year, too.  We have the opportunity to change our lives, the lives of our children, and the world starting now.  But, it is up to each of us to see the potential in our lives to recreate our realities.
