Anyone can believe that we are living in tough times. But, if we look at NOW, we should be seeing opportunities to recreate our realities. There has never been a time in most of our lives when opportunities abound as they do today.

Remember, with every adversity there is a seed of equivalent or greater benefit… IF we look for it with a positive mental attitude!

The news is filled with negatives, everything from the stock market reaching 12 year lows to unemployment being as high as it has been in 25 years. And, yes, if we want to we can live in that reality. Perhaps, we should look on the other side of the page. There are opportunities for all of us. Now, is the time to recreate our realities, to build our lives as we want them to be.

Speaking with one friend a couple of days ago, I heard a positive attitude that was almost unbelievable. He has been laid off his job. Laid off isn’t exactly what I would call it, but that’s the term he used. In fact, the factory where he worked had closed… and no, it isn’t going to reopen. The gentleman is living on unemployment insurance. With little hope of finding a similar position locally and no hope of being rehired he said that he was “taking an hour off for lunch.” What? Taking an hour off from what for lunch?

To my surprise, the man said that he was really blessed and busier than he had been in years. I had to ask him to explain his rationale for his statement.

First of all, the gentleman explained that he knew the unemployment insurance would not last forever so he had a timeline to do what he wants to do. While he is collecting unemployment he has cut back on some of the “extras” in his life. Cable is gone. He shops far more wisely at the grocery market… buying items on sale and even using coupons. And, he works from 8:00 am to noon, takes an hour for lunch, starts back to work at 1:00 pm and stops at 5:00 pm. He is enrolled in a class at the community college in the evenings to learn more about computers. He explained that he is using the money he would spend on cable television to go to school. (Great exchange, huh?)

I was intrigued. The man has no job, so what could he be spending his days doing? He has the discipline and the attitude to become a success even in the worst of times. The gentleman went on to say that he had always heard that “people” could earn an income online and he was going to do just that. Well, I didn’t go into exactly what he is doing to earn an income, but he seemed rather satisfied that he earned over $100 his first month after he had been fired and has continued to increase his monthly online income.

This is one example. If you look around you will see others for yourself. Or, perhaps you are the example. The point is that all of us have dreams. Think back a few years to that “bright idea” you had but never put into play. Unemployed? Now may be the time to dedicate yourself to creating the job you always wanted, to do something you always had a passion for. Now is the time of opportunity.

Sure, I know that many of us are sweating under the pressure of debt and in some cases dispair. If you find yourself in a similar situation, you have a choice. You can wallow in worry and sink further into the black hole or you can take advantage of the time you have to live your dreams, to turn those dreams into a brand new reality.

Anyone can start a business at home. You don’t need start up money for an office or a place to work. Use what you have. And, always remember that what you have to offer exists in your head first… as a dream. There are no excuses now. If you are unemployed, you have the time to take those dreams and create a new reality.

Think about it! How much better can it get? You have the ideas. You have the time. Now, create. America was built by entreprenuers, but people with dreams and ideas. As the big businesses close and leave the neighborhoods, the opportunities grow for the “little person”. Now is the time to take advantage of every golden opportunity.

We live in a time of opportunity, if you look at it with a positive mental attitude. If you are laid off or your workplace has closed, you have the time to invest in your dreams and your goals. Do not squander this age of opportunity. As the economy recovers across the nation, you can be the new business on the block. You can be the next millionaire. There has never been such a wonderful time of opportunity if you are willing to take advantage of it. It is time to create your life as you wish it to be.
